You might have noticed that some HVAC tapes have liners, while others do not. So what is the purpose of the liner?
HVAC tape liners are actually crucial to the tape’s use and performance. The liner’s objective, simply put, is to keep the roll of tape from sticking to itself. Liners are typically used for tapes with aggressive adhesives that would cause it to stick to its own backing if rolled up without a liner. In certain HVAC applications, a piece of tape may need to be strong enough to create a permanent bond even to its own backing, which makes a liner a necessary component of the roll.
Before choosing your HVAC tape, be sure to consider the purpose you have in mind and the applications that different tapes are designed for. For tougher jobs, a tape with a liner may be a good option.
