Blake Hodge, Student – Ferris State University
HVAC runs in Blake’s blood – his family has been in the business for 50 years and counting. Gary’s Heating Service was started by his grandfather in 1957 and Blake has been working for the family business since his junior year of high school. His early exposure to the field piqued his interest and now he’s committed to an HVAC career.
Blake mostly works for his family during the summers, but he still works during the school year as much as possible. He helps with installations in new construction and change outs, installations of duct systems and general service work. He has experience with both residential and commercial equipment.
Blake attended St. Patrick High School in Portland, MI, and graduated top of his class. Also during high school he attended Heartlands Institute of Technology – a career center for high school students in Ionia, MI. There he studied construction technology and received the program award, which is given to the top student in the class. He intended to pursue a career in construction management before being exposed to the HVAC industry.
During high school, Blake played basketball, football and golf. He was selected to be on the All-County team in football and in golf he went to the state regional tournament. Now, in his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends.
Blake aspires to graduate from Ferris State University in 2021 and begin a career in the HVAC industry in either design or controls. While he wants to learn the family business, he intends on taking it a step further in pursuing HVAC engineering. He hopes to stay in Michigan close to family and friends.
