The cleanliness of an HVAC system is a frequently ignored component of indoor air quality. But really shouldn’t be.
HVAC systems can get contaminated when something enters into the ductwork after the air has been conditioned. In some cases, even the system itself can be the source of the contaminants.
These contaminants may include:
- Water
- Dirt
- Pollen and other allergens
- Bacteria
- Airborne pathogens
- Other microbes
To prevent contamination from happening, it’s critical to perform proper system assessments and system hygiene – especially with the HVAC system playing such a large role in the air quality of a living/work/study space.
